Saturday Night Special Dinner – Dal Tikki With Tempered Yogurt



Ingredients :-

1. Split green gram (soaked overnight and cooked) – 1 cup.
2. Mashed potatoes – 1 cup
3. Chilli ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp.
4. Chopped onions – 2 tbsp.
5. Turmeric powder, chilli powder, garam masala – 1 tsp.
6. Salt – to taste.
7. Dry mango powder – 1 tsp.
8. Oil – 1 tbsp.
9. Cumin seeds – a pinch.
10. Fresh bread crumbs – 1/2 cup.
For yogurt:-
1. Fresh non sour yogurt – 2 cup.
2. Non salted boondi – 2 tbsp.
3. Freshly chopped green coriander – 1 tbsp.
For tempering:-
4. Oil – 1 tsp.
5. Cumin seeds – a pinch.
6. Curry leaves – 5-7 leaves.
7. Garlic paste – 1 tsp.
8. Chaat masala -1 tsp.
For serving accompaniments:-
Green chutney and chaat masala.


1. Heat some oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, chilli ginger garlic paste, chopped onions, and readied split green gram and mix well.
2. Add the mashed potatoes, dry masala (turmeric powder, chilli powder and garam masala) and dried mango powder and mix well.
3. Add the bread crumbs, mix and then give a proper shape of tikki and deep fry it golden.
4. Now take a bowl and add yogurt, beat it till smooth.
5. Add non – salted boondi, finely chopped coriander chaat masala and mix well.
6. In a pan heat some oil, add cumin seeds, curry leaves, garlic paste saute wait till the seeds crackle.
7. Add it to the yogurt mixture and mix well.
8. Serve the tikkis with freshly tempered yogurt and green chutney.
